The Fiio can also be used as a dac with USB input.It can be disheartening when a favoured device begins to break-down. The Fiio can send out pcm over coax and the Xduoo has an optical out put. The iPod can only do ALAC lossless and 16-48 max resolution, and using it with an external dac is a bit limited. Both do 24-192 Flac, ALAC etc and dsd, the Fiio being much more versatile in the dsd department. The user interface is ok with those 2, where the he Xduoo cannot do gapless unless you generate cue sheets but the Fiio can.
The description states JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) which suggests that only one card can be accessed at any given time i.e., I cannot have one consolidated library always. The other 2 have excellent sound, with the Fiio being a bit warmer sound, the Xduoo is very similar in sound to the iPod. I'm trying to determine if there are actual functional differences between iFlash Solo's versus the Dual's/Quad's.

So why keep the iPod? Well besides the great sound out of it, the user interface is better, but you still need to use iTunes to download music to it. But both the Fiio and he Xduoo hav excellent sound as well. That being said, I still use my classic 160 gb, but I also have a Fiio X3 II with a 200 gb card, and an Xduoo X10 with 2 200 gb cards. If you go this route you should also install a new battery while you have it apart. The iPod upgraded with a large capacity sd card is one way for sure.
